Abstract
Herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO) occurs when the varicella zoster virus (VZV) is reactivated in the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve. HZO usually causes various ocular complications, however, ophthalmoplegias including the oculomotor nerve palsy have been reported uncommonly. Unlike previous reports, our case presented with pupil-sparing partial oculomotor nerve palsy. The etiologies of the oculomotor nerve palsy in HZO are still unclear, but our case may suggest the microvascular ischemia possibly caused by vasculitis as an etiology.
